11th Feb, 1941: An R.A.F. Middle East Headquarters communique states : The night of February 8-9 aerodromes at Calato and Maritza  (Rhodes) were raided by bombers of the R.A.F.

Bombs were dropped on a number of aircraft dispersed on the landing ground at Calato causing a heavy explosion and two large fires, believed to be enemy aircraft.

The attack was completed by machine-gunning enemy aircraft.

The same night aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm carried out a successful raid on Tripoli.
